POSITION SUMMARY
The R&D Chemist is responsible for researching and developing polishing materials (Chemical Mechanical Planarization-CMP) for the semiconductor industry that meet specific company and customer requirements. Will create polishing compounds from inception through pilot plant phase and documentation. Creates new concepts and provides solutions to complex technical processes and product modifications as required to optimize product performance. Effectively interacts with peers, departments and customers to share scientific knowledge/interpretation and provide technical advice and consultation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops slurry polishing formulations and manufacturing processes from inception through pilot plant phases.
- Generates and documents formulation IP for Fujimi group.
- Works with customers to identify target specifications, test slurry performance and modify formulations as needed.
- Monitors testing of new products, analyzes results and provides feedback as required.
- Ensures all required Fujimi NPI procedures are documented and met.
- Investigates customer requests and questions by investigation and analysis of products and processes as needed.
- Communicates with parent company research department on project goals and processes as needed.
- Develops and maintains close working relationship with internal departments, parent company and customer contacts.
- Works as part of a team with other chemists, engineers and technicians.
- Ensures product is developed per Fujimi’s documented EHS procedures

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Doctorate required, Field of Study: Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering or closely related field.
Experience: 4 plus years of experience in formulation R&D or related field, preferably in CMP polishing slurries or clean chemistry, particle fabrication, and inorganic or polymer chemistry. Evidence of success working with customers in high-performance applications is a plus.
Computer Skills: Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) are required. High level of expertise using statistical programs such as JMP, Statistica, etc.
Other Requirements: Knowledge of statistical design of experiments is preferred. In-depth knowledge of CMP, and use of metrology and analytical instruments utilized in the field is helpful.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works primarily in a lab and office environment with occasional exposure to clean room, manufacturing and warehouse areas. Extended daily and weekly work hours. Requires extensive travel and occasional evening meetings.
