POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Engineer will help ensure compliance to all applicable local, federal, and international environmental regulations. Implement effective compliance and management programs, and act as liaison with regulatory agencies. Will help ensure the Environmental Management System (EMS) is implemented, and maintained in accordance with the ISO 14001:2015 requirements. The environmental engineer will own the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) inventory system including approving, managing updates, and coordinating SDS authoring with external consulting group. The Environmental Engineer will represent the organization for regulatory agencies, customers, auditors, and other external bodies of interest.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Regulatory Functions:

  • The primary function of this role will be to serve as lead in support of regulatory compliance. This position requires knowledge and experience with ISO14001 including chemical regulations US/State/Local (OSHA, EPA, FIFRA, TSCA, RCRA, DOT, and fire marshal) and international (REACH, ROHS, and ECHA).
  • This role will also evaluate regulatory compliance of current and ramping products in support of business development. It is expected that the successful candidate will be familiar with common practices in our industry and support an operating organization that maximizes our ability to pursue Fujimi’s business interests.
  • Maintain current knowledge of existing and emerging domestic/international laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines as it relates to chemical research, manufacturing, sales and transport.
  • Interpret regulatory rules, assess rule changes, ensure their proper communication through corporate policies and procedures, and develop and implement systems to document changes to the regulatory framework that governs our business. Update internal documents and train Fujimi employees on new requirements.
  • Support Quality System compliance for the Regulated Products group, including writing and revising relevant operating standards, design document review, and constructively implementing compliance mechanisms for new regulations and regulatory guidance.
  • Work with Sales on customer requirements for chemical content certifications and provide support to customer partners for general and account-specific requirements.
  • Work with Quality Team on CAPAs, complaint investigations, internal and external audits

Chemical Inventory Management System Functions:

  • Maintain accurate and compliant chemical inventory system. Work with chemical users to ensure departments meet regulatory requirements.
  • Work with IS to ensure CIMS system functionality and provide support for required upgrades and new features. Maintain working instructions in Master Control for CIMS.
  • Evaluate, vet, and approve new R&D chemicals based on regulatory registrations and restrictions. Work with chemical suppliers to ensure SDS meet regulatory requirements. Ensure that processes related to the evaluation and approval of raw materials, new, and legacy products are efficient, transparent, and in line with the business needs of Fujimi and our customers.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing standard operating procedures and record keeping systems and create new procedures as needed to streamline or assist with regulatory review of products and processes
  • Own documentation, training and maintenance for waste management module and procedures

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience: BS Degree in Environmental Engineering or other related field with 3-5 years’ experience. Knowledge of ISO 14001 Standards and auditing experience with knowledge of international regulations (REACH, RoHS, TSCA).

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Certifications & License: HAZWOPER certification is a plus.

Occasionally: Reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat/kneel, grasp, lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Occasionally push/pull up to 100lbs.

Other Physical Requirements

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirator

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works primarily in an office environment with frequent walkthroughs and inspections of labs, manufacturing and warehouse areas. Exposure to warehouse and hazardous materials and chemicals.
